Chairman, Northern State Governors’ Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has stressed the need to create a conducive environment for youths in northern Nigeria in order to flourish in their various endeavours.
Lalong spoke on Wednesday at the Council Chamber of Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna while inaugurating a Special Committee on Youths and Civil Societies.
The governor said the north must tackle the current challenges of insecurity dominated by insurgency, kidnapping, banditry and other conflicts to enable the youth in the region prosper in their business ventures.
He promised that leaders from the region would continue to work with the Federal Government and security agencies to tackle crime and criminality.
Lalong said the forum was not against the disbandment of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) as misconstrued in some quarters but rather cautioned against the blanket condemnation that could erode the confidence and zeal of hardworking and honest police officers performing their duties of protecting lives and properties.
Lalong, who clarified the forum’s stand on social media, stressed that the time had come for some mechanisms to be put in place to ensure that those who misused the social media and put the lives of others in danger were held accountable.
The committee, chaired by the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Nuhu Bamalli, has eight weeks to complete the assignment and submit its report.
