Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North East and party chieftains have said the region owes its votes to President Muhammadu Buhari for his 2019 re-election bid.
They disclosed this while speaking separately at the North East Zonal meeting of the party held in Bauchi on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, the APC National Secretary of the party, Mai Mala Buni said the North East as major beneficiary of President Buhari’s administration beleives that people of the region will vote for him more than they did in 2015.
He said the people of the North East region know what the president has done for them in the last three years.
According to him, the region has witnessed tremendous improvement in security while capital projects like the Mambilla Hydropower project and road construction is going on across the region.
On his part, the North East Zonal Vice chairman of the party, Comrade Mustapha Salisu said that while the party urged its aggrieved members for reconciliation and withdrawal of all litigations, it will not hesitate to sanction any member who flouted its constitution as regards to grievances.
Also speaking, Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima noted that, there had been grievances after the APC primary elections in all the states of the North East, but the party will reconcile its members and forge ahead and consolidate on the gains made.
“Before the coming of President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration, many local government areas in Borno State are under Boko Haram occupation, in Yobe two local government, in Adamawa about four or six. So, we know what we are saying when we say that, President Buhari is the best for us in the region,” he said.
Also speaking, Senate leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan said that, the APC will after the 2019 elections have the majority in the Senate and the House of Representatives so that, they will support the president to bring the needed change and development to the country.
In his welcome address, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, said that, members of the party should unite and forget their grievances in order to strengthen the party and face the forthcoming 2019 elections.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Gida Mustapha represented by the Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr Garba Abari, called on the party to effectively set in motion a machinery for genuine reconciliation and ensure that the party wins massively not only in the North East but the whole country.
He urged Nigerians to vote for President Buhari to continue with his reforms and projects and fight the menace of corruption in the country.
The meeting was attended by the governors of Bauchi, Adamawa, Borno, APC governorship candidates of Taraba, Yobe and Gombe.
Other attendees include North East’s serving and former APC senators, former and serving members of House of Representatives, former governors including Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, Malam Isa Yuguda, General Buba Marwa (rtd), Senator Danjuma Goje and other party chieftains from all the six states of the region.
