North Central can produce president, APC national chair – Al-Makura

The immediate past governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has said that the North-Central region can produce the president..

The immediate past governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has said that the North-Central region can produce the president, as well as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.

Al-Makura, a national chairmanship aspirant of the party, said there was no law forbidding same as it would further strengthen democracy.

The senator representing Nasarawa South said this yesterday in Abuja in a chat with some newsmen.

He said that of all the aspirants, none had been lucky like him because he enjoyed the support of his successor, Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress Coalition for Credible Leadership says the emergence of Al-Makura would be in the interest of the party.

The group also dismissed as “baseless”, the prediction that Al-Makura’s emergence as APC’s national chairman might trigger political rifts that could cost the party Nasarawa State in the 2023 elections.

The coalition in a press release by its national coordinator, Luben Gbenda, said while many former governors and their successors had been fighting, Sule remained Al-Makura’s chief campaigner.

It added that Al-Makura had all it takes to reconcile contesting interests in the party, given his far-reaching goodwill within and outside the party.
