Normalcy has been restored to neighbouring communities of two local government areas in Benue State where three people were recently killed after a disagreement over disconnected electricity supply.
Our correspondent reports that the trouble started when the youths from Ijegwu community in Obi Local Government Area allegedly accused their counterparts of Ojantele in Otukpo of tampering with the high-tension that supplies electricity to both local government areas after noticing a four-day blackout in their vicinity.
The disagreement between the youths snowballed into a communal fight during which some people reportedly lost their lives while several houses were burnt.
Addressing journalists in Makurdi on Friday, the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Lt. Col. Paul Hemba (rtd), said the crisis had been quelled and normalcy restored.

“The military has pulled out of the area. The police now patrol the route on daily basis to ensure that motorists and pedestrians plying the roads are not molested.
“Governor Samuel Ortom directed a meeting with stakeholders which I (Hemba) held on Tuesday with both sides. They have promised to go back home and talk to their youths, and all stakeholders from both sides regretted the incident,” the security adviser said.
