Normal activities on Tuesday resumed at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, as workers of the different ministries and agencies returned to work after the Eid-el-Maulud and Christmas holidays.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Government had on Dec. 22 declared Dec. 24, 25 and 28 public holidays to mark Maulud Nabiy, Christmas Day and Boxing Day respectively.

NAN reports that many workers were on Tuesday seen at their duty posts at about 10a.m., carrying out different tasks, though the Secretariat was still devoid of the usual crowd of people who throng the place.

At the Ministry of Rural Development, some workers were seen treating files, while others attended to visitors.

At the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) unit, officials were busy attending to people who came to sort out issues relating to fines and vehicle documentation.

The situation was not different at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Information and Strategy and the Ministry of Housing as workers were seen in their offices.

An employee of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, who simply gave his name as Monsuru, told NAN that work had commenced in earnest in his office but attendance had yet to be full.

”Work has started in my ministry. Things are going on fine. Most workers have reported for work, but some are still being expected.

”You know it is the first day at work after Christmas; so, it is not everybody who is here now; by tomorrow, we expect full attendance, ” he said.

An employee of the Ministry of Health who sought anonymity told NAN that the holiday provided his family an opportunity to relax.

“It was nice; I visited places with other members of my family. I am re-energised; the morale for work is high after the Christmas holiday,” she said.

A worker in the Public Service Office, who also pleaded anonymity, said although work had resumed, there was not much to do since it was the first day at work after holiday.

”We have resumed, but not much happened today because some of us are just settling down after the Christmas break.

”By Wednesday, I am sure things will take shape fully, ” he said.

A member of staff of the Ministry of the Environment, who simply identified himself as Adeyeye, described her Christmas holiday as “enjoyable”.

Adeyeye said he had much rest and was ready for work.

NAN reports that customers were also seen at the two commercial banks located within the secretariat complex carrying out different transactions. (NAN)
