As part of efforts to eradicate poverty, youth restiveness, kidnapping piracy and banditry, the National Commission for Nomadic Education, has commenced skills training for nomadic youths and women from Ogun, Plateau and Bayelsa states.

Opening the three-day training in Kaduna, the executive secretary of the commission, Professor Bashir Usman, said the training will go a long way in reducing poverty in many rural communities, restiveness, cattle rustling, kidnapping, rural banditry and piracy among others.

Usman, who was represented by the Director of Extension Education and Skills Development, Dr Abdu Umar Ardo, also said that the commission was making frantic efforts to ensure that 3.5 out of school nomadic children are enrolled in the commission’s schools.

According to him, “Our teaming youths and women are very eager to imbibe relevant vocational education and value orientation skills which play a key role in providing food security and income to millions of families and their communities. These communities are faced with challenges of poverty, climate change, illiteracy and insecurity.”
