Nollywood releases 280 movies in first quarter of 2023

Executive Director/CEO of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Adedayo Thomas, reports that in the first three months of the year, the board received and censored 280 films made by the Nigerian film industry.

According to the NFVCB’s CEO, the data was provided by the board’s Department of Film Censorship and Classification in its first quarter report for the year, which included all films submitted to the board from around the country.

According to the survey, the number of films produced fell from 340 in the fourth quarter of 2022 to 280 in the first quarter of 2023, representing an 18% decline.

The report claims that 106 films were received by the board’s Lagos censorship centre, which represents the majority of the films made during the review period, followed by Abuja with 99 films.

According to the research, Onitsha comes second with 32 films, followed by Abeokuta with 3 films, Kano with 15 films, and Benin with just one.

According to the research by censorship location, Jos reported 14 films, Port Harcourt eight, and Ibadan and Kaduna one.
