Nollywood Actress: How I intimidated a man who wanted to rape me

Nollywood Actress, Nkechi Blessing, has recounted how she was almost raped at the age of 17.

In an interview on Chude, a show anchored by media personality, Chude Jidenowo, Blessing said she was set up by her sister over the doubt that she was a virgin at the time.

She said at the time, her mother owned a beer parlour patronised by all manner of people.

“Though my mum had a beer parlour as at that time, she was so strict with her kids that you couldn’t see them messing around.”

Narrating how her sister set her up, she said, “On this day, she invited me out with her boyfriend. I was cool with it but then it started to seem as though she wanted to set me up with her boyfriend to confirm if I was still a virgin or not.

“They brought drinks and I drank them. She stood up, left, and said she would be back. Then, the guy stood up and sat beside me. My mind immediately went to the fact that my mother didn’t believe I was a virgin. I was scared to death but I knew I needed to do something.

“Next thing, I summed up the courage to leave and the guy held me down and said ‘you’re not going anywhere’. Then, I asked him, ‘uncle, you wan rape me?’ This statement startled him and then he let me go”, she said.

“He knew I was going to scream so he let me be. I guessed that (rape) was going to happen. I thought to myself that rapists should be given the death penalty. There’s no need for court. You hear a person raped, just kill them there.

“I feared what would have happened to me if he eventually did it. I’ve seen victims; read loads of messages from people, even adults who were raped. You can imagine the anger and trauma that they have gone through.”
