Nollywood Actor, Mr Ibu, dies at 62

John Okafor, the comic actor popularly known as Mr Ibu, is dead.

News of Mr Ibu’s death broke on Saturday night, with unconfirmed reports saying he died at a Lagos hospital.

However, Emeka Rollas, President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), confirmed the news in an Instagram post.

He wrote: “Sad Day for Actors Guild of Nigeria. Kate Henshaw lost her mother earlier today and Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager for 24 years Mr Don Single Nwuzor.

“I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace.”

In October 2023, Mr Ibu shared a video announcing to his fans that he was diagnosed with an illness which he did not disclose.

According to the thespian, his doctor had said if the prescribed medications fails, his leg will be amputated.

Some Nigerians came to his rescue, including the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation.

In November, the late actor underwent a leg amputation.

His family said this was done due to his medical conditions and to save his life after he had undergone seven successful surgeries.

The veteran Nollywood actor acted in more than 200 Nollywood movies. He also ventured into music, just for a short period.
