Nobody died during Jos Carnival – Chairman, LOC

The Chairman Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Jos Carnival 2019, Mr Ejila Solomon has debunked the rumours going round that about two people died and 26 others were injured during the recent Jos Carnival.
Mr Ejila in a telephone interview with Daily Trust on Wednesday said the story wasn’t true but the making of people with ulterior motives against the highly successful carnival in the state.
The rumour had it that the death of the two persons occurred when a power bike rider during the street parade ran over participants which led to the death of a male dancer and another partaker of the carnival before they were rushed to hospital.
But Mr Solomon explained that even though there was mild accident during the street parade but nobody died.
He said, “It isn’t true, nobody died. There was a mild accident and all the people that were involved in that accident are being taken care of in the hospital at the expense of the state government.”
He added that the only person that had an accident that is not directly involved in the carnival was a policeman (Mopol) close to Hill Station round about and he was at Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) responding to treatment.
When contacted the Police Public Relationship Officer (PPRO) in the state, Tyopev Terna said he wasn’t aware that a policeman died during the carnival, but would get back to our reporter.
As at the time of filing this report, the PPRO didn’t get back to our reporter.
