Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State came heavy on the opposition yesterday over what he termed “unending and unnecessary criticism”, saying he cannot be deterred from restoring the dignity of the state.
Masari, who became governor of the state on the platform of the APC, has of recent came under criticism from both the opposition and social media bloggers over his style of leadership, which according to them  was “taking the state to bankruptcy.”
Speaking when he received the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, during the ‘Hawan Bariki’ durbar, as part of the Eid el-Fitr celebrations, Masari said there was no need for anyone to threaten his government ahead of the 2019 general elections, noting that he would definitely account for his stewardship.
He said it was easy to destroy, but to repair took time, adding that what he inherited was “a system full of mess, and we are resolute to fix it, no matter whose ox is gored.”
Masari dared the opposition to come forth, saying he was ready to give the financial situation of the state and the expenditure incurred since he came on board.
“The manifestation of what we are doing now will be felt in years to come,” he said.
The governor said the screening of local government staff and teachers was done in good faith, noting that the councils could not live up to expectations of proving services because resources were hardly enough to pay salaries.
“Every month, the state government had to top up over N1.1 billion to effect payment of salaries in the 34 local government areas in the state,” he said.
Masari assured that his doors would remain open for people to offer useful suggestions, adding that the Ministry of Information had been provided with funds to provide suggestion boxes in all the local government headquarters.
