NOA tasks Benue residents on vandalism, others

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Benue State has stressed the need for residents of the state to shun vandalisation of public property and other forms of social misbehaviour.

State Director of NOA, Chief Richard Abimiku Audu, made the appeal during a one-day national sensitisation and reorientation programme against political thuggery, kidnapping, drug addiction, radicalisation and violent extremism in Makurdi.

He said, “Benue State has had  its share of untold hardships caused by the effects of insecurity. Years back, Benue State enjoyed relative peace, as it was devoid of many vices that are perpetrated today.

“However, for about a decade ago, the state has experienced varying degrees of insecurity and criminality among other vices that have disturbed common peace in the state and the country at large.”

Similarly, in a paper presentation,  the Assistant Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Benue State, DCC Adegbe Ibrahim, lamented the destruction of public property by vandals and urged the people to police their environment.

“Every day, they are looting railway slippers either in Taraku or Gboko. And I wonder if those doing these things are indigenes or citizens of this country.

“Let’s talk to the people to stop the criminal act or they will face the wrath of the law. We have arrested so many of the vandals and some already convicted,” the security official said.
