NOA decries decline in core values among youths

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has expressed worry over the decline in the practice of core values amongst youths.

It said values such as integrity, social justice, patriotism, discipline, dignity of labour, religious tolerance and self-reliance, are important to the growth of youths and the development of the nation.

Garba Abari, Director-General of NOA, said this Tuesday in Abuja at the flag-off of a national stakeholders’ engagement themed ‘Re-Orientation of National Core Values for Secondary Schools’.

Abari, represented by the Director of Human Resources at the agency, Kehinde Ogunkuade, said the project was aimed at sensitizing and educating youths on the importance of core values.

He said students would be engaged through debates, quiz and essay competitions to encourage them to think critically about the values and how they can apply them in their daily lives to become responsible citizens.

“We cannot underestimate the importance of re-orientating our youths on national core values. It is the responsibility of all of us to ensure that our young people are equipped with the values and tools they need to become responsible and productive citizens.

“I urge all stakeholders, including parents, teachers and community leaders, to support this programme and to work closely together to ensure its success. Let us all commit ourselves to building a better and stronger Nigeria through re-orientation of our young people on national core values,” he said.
