The Enugu State Police Commissioner, Mr. Danmallam Mohammed has re-emphasised position on issues of accidental discharge resulting in the killing of any member of the public by any policeman in the command, insisting that such act would attract severe consequences.

 
Danmallam said that police men are always guided by relevant orders as it concerns the use of firearms, adding that “as a police man, you must be professional in your handling of firearms.”
 
The Commissioner  said this while reacting to the incident that occurred along Aninri axis of the Enugu Port-Harcourt Expressway  Enugu on 14th May,2018 at about  9.30pm  where a police patrol team on duty  allegedly shot  at a moving lorry with Registration Number DNG 612 XA which  reportedly caused the death of  one of the passengers.
 
A statement released by the police spokesman in the state, SP Ebere Amaraizu stated that Danmallam  has  directed for a full-scale investigations by the operatives of the state Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department Enugu state  to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident as those behind the tragedy have been nabbed.
 
Amaraizu said that the Commissioner regretted the inconveniences caused by the incident which brought about the blocking of roads to other road users  by those in sympathy with the victims, assuring that “those behind the incident will not go unpunished
