Normalcy has returned to parts of Lagos as Lagosians returned to work yesterday after the unrest that trailed the #EndSARS protest and the resultant curfew that was imposed by the state government.
Our correspondents report that normalcy has returned to the metropolis with residents and workers going about their normal businesses.
However, traffic was light in parts of the state as only a few people came out compared to a normal busy day in Lagos.
It was gathered that many residents were skeptical about going out in pursuit of their daily activities as some people stayed back to observe the situation before going out. Some private organisations told their workers not to resume yet. However, shops, markets and transport workers had all resumed work.
One of our correspondents observed that not a single uniformed security operative was in sight from Lagos Island to Mainland.
The popular officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were not also sighted at the Third Mainland Bridge. Even the officers of the state Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) were not seen.
A resident and a businessman in Lagos, Mr. Dayo Ademola, said following his movement from Abule Egba to Ipaja, Egbeda and Oko-Oba, it is clear that normalcy has returned as people were seen going about their businesses.
He however expressed worry that there was no sight of any security personnel in all the areas he visited.
Also, Mr. Adedeji Musiliu said that driving from Ikeja where he resides down to Broad street on the Island where he works, there was no single security officer on the road. This he said was worrisome in the case of any breakdown of law and order.
A youth group under the aegis of Oodua Youth Parliament (OYP) has however stressed the need to help the police force regain its integrity and confidence, even as Nigeria works to check the excesses of the personnel.
Meanwhile, the State Police Command says it has now adopted convoy patrol to check crimes.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the adoption of convoy patrol is aimed at checking crime as well as protecting lives of policemen.
“The Command adopted the convoy patrol style against the single Vehicular patrol to protect policemen as well as respond to distress calls.
“Aside, there are policemen in plain cloths also performing undercover operations” he said.
