The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it will not return to any polling unit where an election is cancelled due to violence on Saturday.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who disclosed this on Tuesday in Yenagoa while addressing election stakeholders during a meeting in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, said the result from such polling unit will not be counted and INEC will not return to the polling unit.

Represented by INEC National Commissioner supervising Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers states, May Agbamuche-Mbu, Yakubu said “Where there is violence, it will be zero; we will not return to that polling unit to conduct election.”

He said for effective supervision of the process, the commission will deploy two national commissioners, and eight Resident Electoral Commissioners to support the office in Bayelsa.

The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, Tolani Alausa, said the police are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful election in the state on Saturday.

Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Charge of Operations, Ijamah Daniel, the police boss said the force will deploy three to six personnel in each polling unit.

“Outside that, the IGP has deployed as much as 21 units of mobile police force, and tactical units like the special force, the counter-terrorism unit, and special protection unit are all coming to Bayelsa State,” he said.

On his part, the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Denise Otiotio, alleged that certain political parties were acquiring BVAS and printing result sheets to swap with original result sheets after the election, demanding that INEC should sign on all the result sheets before releasing them for election.
