Bauchi State government has dispelled rumours that the government is planning to sack some civil servants in the state.

The State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Liman Bello stated this while speaking to journalists in his office.

He said the rumours were  being spread by mischievous people to tarnish the good image of the government.‎

Bello said that the present administration has no plans to terminate the appointment of any civil servant adding that the rumours are part of efforts by unpatriotic citizens to sabotage government’s determination towards improving civil service in the state.

The state Head of Service advised civil servants and people of the state to disregard the rumours as government is doing everything possible to improve the welfare of civil servants and ensure optimum productivity.

Speaking on contract staff, he said government has decided to disengage contract staff whose contracts have expired.

He however pointed out that plans are underway to recommend the engagement of unemployed youths in the state when the financial position of the state improves and employment embargo is lifted.

When contacted, the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Hashimu Gital described the rumours as baseless and unfounded.

He said that government and organised labour in the state have a good relationship as such the government cannot take such decision without consulting the labour.

He therefore called on workers in the state to disregard the rumours and continue with their normal business, saying their prayer is for government to engage more people especially unemployed youth into the civil service.

Gital commended the state government for the prompt release of worker’s promotion after the December promotion examination exercise and assured workers that its struggle is on the improvement of their welfare.
