No new projects for 2021 budget – FG

The Federal Government has said no Ministry, Department or Agency (MDA) should submit proposal for new projects in the 2021 budget as only ongoing projects will be provided for.

This was contained in 2021 budget call circular by the Budget Office. “MDAs are hereby advised that new projects will not be admitted into the capital budget for 2021, unless adequate provision has been made for completion of all ongoing projects.”

Based on thee 2021 2023 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper, the aggregate FGN revenue available for budget (including GOEs) for fiscal year 2021 is projected at N7.498 trillion, while the aggregate expenditure level is projected to be N12.658tn.

This aggregate expenditure is made up of Statutory Transfers of N481.41 billion, Debt Service of N3.124tn, Sinking Fund of N220bn, Recurrent (non-debt) expenditure of N5.746tn and Capital expenditure (exclusive of capital in Statutory Transfers) of N3.086tn. Of the capital expenditure, MDAs Capital is N1.485tn.

The Budget Office also said MDAs should pay attention to made in Nigeria goods in their procurements.

Additionally, it said the FGN in furtherance of its inclusiveness agenda, intends to sustain the Special Intervention Programme (SIP). Accordingly, a total of N420bn is proposed to be allocated to the SIP.

On Travels and training, it said “MDAs are enjoined to restrict their travels, training and capacity development programmes to locations within the country and as close to their office locations as possible. Foreign travels and training should be limited to exceptional cases, and with necessary approvals in accordance with extant government policy.”
