A survey covering epidemiological, entomological and ophthalmological investigations conducted by Sightsavers has revealed that there is no fresh outbreak of river blindness in Kaduna communities.
Sightsavers is a registered UK charity that works in more than 30 developing countries to prevent blindness, restore sight and advocate social inclusion and equal rights for people with disabilities.
The Media had earlier reported that the rivers that flow through Iri, a community situated within Kajuru local government area of Kaduna state, breeds black flies that cause blindness. However, a statement signed yesterday by the Country Director of Sightsavers , Dr. Sunday Isiyaku stated that the outcome of the survey found the media reports to be untrue.
