The Commissioner of Police in Abia, Anthony Ogbizi, has debunked reports that 21 criminal suspects escaped from police custody at Ohafia Divisional Police Station.
Ogbizi said the report was not true, adding that the Area Commander informed him that the division carried out a raid of the area and arrested four criminal suspects, while many others escaped.
The police boss said that suspects arrested in connection with crimes, such as armed robbery, kidnapping and murder, were usually detained at the state Criminal Investigation Department in Umuahia, while investigation continued.
He described the media report as a cheap propaganda intended to blackmail the command which, according to him, has waged an unrelenting war against hoodlums in the state.
