No going back on demolition, El-Rufai vows

Kaduna State government will use part of the N24billion recovered as a result of the operation of a treasury single account to pay workers’ salaries, Governor Nasir El-Rufai said yesterday.
The government had said that the amounts were hitherto lodged in 470 different accounts operated in about 23 banks.
The governor, who made the disclosure while addressing members of the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress who led a march to the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House to submit a letter for President Muhammad Buhari, said Kaduna State will no longer wait for money from the federation account to pay its workers.
He promised that for this month, civil servants in the state will get their salaries before Sallah.
“We just met with the deputy governor, head of service and commissioner of finance and decided that every civil servant in Kaduna State will get his salary before Sallah God willing. As you know we found some money that have been hidden, so we have enough money to pay you without waiting for federal allocation. So I want you to know and remember that we are working for you and whether I am here or not, the deputy governor, head of service or advisers and commissioners are working for you. We are all working together to work for you,” he stated.
Governor El-Rufai, who also spoke against the backdrop of inactivity in the bid by the state government to recover lands belonging to schools and hospitals, vowed that nothing will stop him from demolishing structures erected on such lands.
He said, “We are going to make life comfortable for the people of the state, particularly the poor. Today I am going to Rimi College to take a final look before we move in; anyone that has taken school land will lose it. If he has C of O and approved building plan, we will pay him compensation. But we will take back our school lands, there is no going back on that, we are doing so because we care about the people. We don’t care about some few people who want to steal people’s land, we will not forgive them. We must take back those lands”.
