The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said there is no going back on the proposed bearing of arms by the Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel working at various airports in the country.
It would be recalled that the federal government had approved for AVSEC officers to carry light weapons to guide against continued harassment.

Managing Director of FAAN, Capt. Rabiu Yadudu, in an interview with airports and aviation correspondents, said the procurement of the weapons was ongoing.
He said, “We need to arm ourselves so that we can protect the airports and protect the stakeholders. If you are having a responsibility and you are looking for someone to protect you, if they don’t share your values, nobody will support you.
“That is what is being faced by AVSEC now. Anytime, we need the support of other agencies, we have to start begging. They can cooperate for a week, and then get tired and go away.”
Speaking on the plan to concession some airports, the MD explained it would not be a complete sale of the airports.
