Both state Ministry of Agriculture and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in the state confirmed they are still awaiting the arrival of the state’s allocation of tractors recently flagged off by Vice President Namadi Sambo.
Under the national tractor accessibility programme, the tractors are meant to be used for hiring services to farmers across the federation but months after the project was flagged off, an official at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, name withheld, confirmed that the tractors have not been delivered to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Lagos, which is supposed to be the coordinator of the distribution in the state.
She said though she isn’t allowed to talk to the press as a civil servant, they are expecting the delivery of the tractors.
On what she thinks are the reasons why the tractors have not arrived, she said, “I don’t know and I cannot comment on what I don’t know.”
Similarly, a source at the state agric ministry who pleaded anonymity hinted that the ministry didn’t believe in the project from the beginning because it was not the first time that such project was announced at the federal level and it ended there.
He said: “Don’t be surprised that you will never hear about that project or any tractor again, and am sure nobody even remembers it if not the media that is talking about it again. After media announcement or unveiling and everything is presented in the television and money might have been released nothing again.”
