The Director of Public Health in Benue State ministry of Health, Dr. Peter Kumba has dismissed rumours making the round of a reported case of Ebola virus in Mkar hospital at Gboko area of the state, describing it as, “untrue and a false alarm.”

Kumba told our correspondent today in Makurdi by telephone that the patient said to be inflicted with the dreaded disease was actually brought to the hospital from Taraba state and that he had liver problem.

“It is not true that Ebola case has been found in Benue. There is a case of a patient suffering from liver problem in the said hospital who was just brought in from Taraba state. That he was vomiting blood does not mean it is Ebola,”he said.

The health official however noted that the patient is currently receiving treatment from his illness in the hospital just as he allayed peoples’ fear in the state, saying there is no need for the scare.

Daily Trust reports that residents in the state since early hours of today have been worried over speculations that the disease had been discovered in a Logo local area.

It was gathered that even churches which conducted weddings in Makurdi today alerted their congregation to stick to precautions as the virus has entered the state.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of Health, Orduen Abunku could not be reached for his comment as he did not pick his call.
