One of the newly promoted Nigeria National League (NNL) sides, Smart City, have promised to gain promotion to the Nigerian topflight in their debut appearance in order to bring back Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) action to Lagos fans.
The last club in Lagos that featured in the NPFL was Mountain of Fire and Miracle FC which was relegated to the lower division at the end of last season and eventually disbanded by the owners..
It will also be recalled that before MFM got the ticket to play in the NPFL, Lagos had stayed for many years without top flight football after the exit of renowned clubs Stationery Stores, ACB and NEPA FC Lagos.
In a chat with Daily Trust yesterday, the Media Officer of Smart City, Mr. Jerome Ovuninta, expressed the readiness of the club to win promotion to the NPFL to return Premier League football to Lagos.
“We know what is at stake. We know that with handwork and early preparation, we can pick a ticket to the NPFL and that is the direction we are going. This is why we are not leaving any stone unturned as we prepare to play in the NNL. We are aware of what is before us.
“To achieve our set goal, we have recruited some tested and trusted hands. We have a pool of players that even the reserve can form a squad in another club. We know what we want and we are doing some good recruitment,” he reiterated.
