NMMA: Daily Trust Reporter wins culture, tradition reporter of the year

Daily Trust Anambra State Correspondent, Eleweke Titus Madako, on Friday emerged the winner of Olagunsoye Oyinlola prize for Culture and Tradition reporter of the year at the 25th Nigeria Media Merit Award, held at Sheraton hotel, Ikeja in Lagos.
Madako’s story headlined ‘Osu: Inside lives of South-East underdogs’ was selected the best out of three stories nominated for the award.
The General Manager of Daily Trust South-West operations, Mr Ademola Oladosu, received the award on behalf of Madako, as all awardees attended the award night ceremony virtually in conformity to the COVID-19 safety protocols.
Also, The Nations Newspaper emerged newspaper of the year; the Radio station of the year award went to Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), while Television Continental, TVC emerged the Television station of the year, among others.
Guest speaker at the event, Chief Dayo Duyile, who is a pioneer trustee of NMMA and a veteran journalist said that the press in Nigeria has done a lot, noting that all the media need is freedom of expression to promote good governance.
He described Nigeria as a helpless and weeping child and that only the media can bring the cries to an end.
Also, the Chairman of NMMA panel of assessors, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, announced that the cumulative cut off point was 70 percent.
He urged female journalists to be more focused, appealing to media owners to provide adequate funding for investigative journalism.
