NMA seeks Lalong’s intervention to curb insecurity

The President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof. Innocent Ujah, has appealed to Plateau State Governor and Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, Simon Lalong, to use his office as the forum’s chairman to tackle the rising spate of insecurity in the nation.

Ujah made the appeal when the association paid a courtesy call on the governor to herald the week-long 61st Annual Scientific Conference and Delegates Meeting which starts on Thursday.

He urged the governor to work with his colleagues, the federal government and security agencies in tackling the insecurity in many parts of the country, adding that the situation is giving everyone concern.

He further said the general insecurity is very worrisome to medical doctors and other health workers who are not only affected, but found it difficult and unsafe to offer their services to those in need.

The president added that the NMA is hosting the event in Plateau State because of the substantial peace that has returned to the state due to the efforts of the Lalong administration.

In his remarks, Governor Lalong thanked the NMA for the visit and the confidence they have in the state.

He assured them that his administration is determined to sustain the peace in the state.

The governor urged the medical doctors to establish health facilities in Plateau State to encourage medical tourism because of the natural endowments of the state and its attendant hospitable environment.
