The Nigerian Medical Association, Federal Capital Territory Branch, (NMA FCT) has lamented that the security situation in the FCT is a serious threat to the safety of its members, who are often on the road at late hours to meet up with duty calls.
Briefing newsmen yesterday, after the association’s emergency general meeting in Abuja, the Chairman FCT NMA, Dr. Charles Ugwuanyi, said it was important for private individuals, professional associations, religious organisations to assist security agencies in curbing the menace of insecurity in the FCT and Nigeria in general.
He said the congress which had 60 doctors in attendance, deliberated on the abduction of Dr. Chammah McSampson, a dental surgeon with Smile Dental Clinic, along Airport Road, on Sunday 10th March, 2024 on his way home from work.
While thanking various agencies whose roles led to Dr McSampson’s eventual release on Thursday March 14, he said the association was not happy with the delays of the FCT minister in meeting with her leadership especially during the difficult period despite several attempts.

Ugwanyi said the congress resolved that the association should urgently develop and publish a guideline which would serve as a working document in the event of the kidnap of any doctor in the FCT.
The chairman called on the Health Management Board of the FCT Administration to ensure appropriate posting of doctors to areas close to where they reside instead of the current posting method that doesn’t take into account how far the doctors stay from the hospital.
