NMA demands adequate protection for doctors

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Delta State yesterday called for adequate provision of personal protective equipment (PPEs) for health workers in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the country.

State Chairman of NMA, Dr. Ekeneam Omo made the appeal in Asaba yesterday sequel to the the deaths of three doctors in Lagos, Katsina and Ondo, who were said to have contracted COVID-19.

Dr Omo listed the PPEs to include minimum of N95 facemasks, gloves, face shield/goggles, and aprons as routine protective gears.

The association called for an upward review of hazard allowances of all doctors and health workers from the current N5, 000 to the percentage of their consolidated basic salary.

The doctors advised the general public to adhere to advisory on COVID-19 adding, “It is not a political scam”.
