The Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) in partnership with the Nigeria LNG Limited will hold a book party for the 11 authors shortlisted for the Nigeria Prize for Literature, Yishau, Africa’s biggest reward for creative excellence with a prize of $100,000.
CORA, in a letter by its Programme Officer, Feyisayo Adelakun, said the event will hold August 8 at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

The shortlisted authors are Olukorede S Yishau (In the Name of Our Father), Obianuju V. Chukwuorji (Delusion of Patriots), Samuel Monye (Give Us Each Day), Anaele Ihuoma (Imminent River), Tony Nwaka (Mountain of Yesterday), Lucy Chiamaka Okwuma (Neglected), Obinna Udenwa (The Colours of Hatred), Abi Dare (The Girl with The Louding Voice), Chukwudi Eze (The Return of Half-Something), Cheluchi Onyemelukwe-Onuobia (The Son of The House), and Law Ikay Ezeh (Your Church My Shrine).
A letter from CORA reads: “To us at CORA, making the shortlist of eleven is already an attestation of the quality of your work. It means that of the 202 entries submitted for the year’s edition of the Prize, your work being among the exceptional eleven could indeed clinch the Prize.
Since 2010, the CORA has been a critical partner in the projection of the shortlisted works to the public’s attention. This is through the annual BOOK PARTY, which is facilitated by the management of Nigeria LNG Limited, promoters of the Prize.
“As manifested in the past editions, the objective of the Book Party is to ensure that we bring the shortlisted writers and books face-to-face with the Literary audiences so that we could create conversations around the work and the author. Since its first edition, the Book Party has become a platform through which the public engages the shortlisted writers in their work.”
The short list was presented on July 2, 2021 by the Chairman, Panel of Judges for this year’s prize, Professor Toyin Jegede, who is a professor of Literature in English at the University of Ibadan. The other judges are Prof. Tanimu Abubakar and Dr Solomon Azumurana.
Professor Abubakar is a Professor of Literature in the Faculty of Art, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. Dr Azumurana is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Lagos.
