NLC defies court, orders workers to stop work

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Cross River State has said they can only obey directives from the National Industrial Court and has therefore directed all government workers in different labour unions to proceed on indefinite industrial action effective Monday June 29, 2020.

In a statement pasted all over government offices, the NLC said, “Comrades, you are advised to stay at home from Monday June 29, 2020 until government attends to all the lingering labour issues as contained in Bulletin 2.  Do not be intimidated or distracted by anybody. Do not allow labour enforcement team to send you home. Stay at home until you hear from us…”

The state government, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Tanko Ashang, had in suit number HC/164/2020 obtained an order of interim injunction by Justice Elias Abua from the high court restraining the NLC from embarking on any strike.
