The Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Senator, Dr. Adeleke Olorunnimbe Mamora has called on the contractor handling the installation of Cargo handling equipment at the Baro River Port to immediately move to site to commence work before the end of the year 2018.

NIWA’s Public Affairs General Manager, Mr Tayo Fadile in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja, quoted the MD as saying this when he visited the Baro River Port to inspect facilities at the site.

Senator Mamora, during the visit, assured the contractor that the Authority will reconstruct the bad portion of the road leading to Baro in two weeks time for easy movement of equipment and personnel to the River Port.

Receiving the Managing Director, the representative of the company handling the installation of the cargo handling equipment, Mr. Opeyemi Olabanji of First Index Project and Service Ltd, said the recent flood and the bad road leading to Baro was what delayed installation of the cargo handling equipment at the Port on time.

He assured the MD of the readiness of the company to carry out the job once the road is repaired.
