The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has commissioned a 36-seater ferry boat at Yelwa – Yauri, Kebbi State.

NIWA’s Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Jibril Dardau in a statement issued on Friday, said the Authority procured the ferry on behalf of Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah as part of his constituency project aimed at easing transportation of people, goods, and services in the area.

In his remarks,  of NIWA, Dr George Moghalu thanked the senator for the opportunity given to the Authority to procure the ferry, saying, “the importance of water transportation cannot be overemphasized for facilitating the transportation of cargos and personnel in strengthening our economy and at the same time exploring tourism potentials of water transportation”.

He appealed the  Kebbi State Government to encourage NIWA by assisting it to ensure companies, organizations and members of public that are using NIWA`s right of ways pay their legitimate fees.

Speaking on the occasion, Senator Na`Allah promised to bring more developments to his people, saying that two more ferries would soon be added to ease the transportation problems of his constituents.

Earlier, the MD paid courtesy call on the Emir of Yauri, who requested NIWA to help clear hyacinth and wrecks from the waterways for easy water transportation.
