NIS to go after killers of personnel in Sokoto

The acting Comptroller General of Immigration, Mrs Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju has vowed to go after the killers of their personnel in Sokoto State.

Daily Trust learnt that six of their officers manning a checkpoint along Illela road were gunned down by suspected bandits penultimate Sunday.

Two of the victims died on the spot while four sustained gunshot injuries and were currently receiving treatment at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.

The Comptroller General who visited the scene of the incident on Wednesday described the attack as barbaric and inhuman.

“I bring the battle to bandits. Two of my men were murdered in cold blood. One of them was from Sokoto, the other one from Zamfara.

“They tried their best to resist the ungodly force.

“I will work in collaboration with other security agencies to fight them and pull them down,” she reiterated.

Mrs Adepoju, however, sympathised with the bereaved families.

“We will do whatever we can to mitigate their loss,” she assured.

She also visited the injured officer at the hospital, promising to take care of them and their medical expenses.

The Comptroller General also made a stopover at Illela border post to monitor the implementation of border closure as directed by President Bola Tinubu.

While paying a courtesy call on Governor Ahmed Aliyu, she solicited for the state government’s support in the fight against the miscreants.

Responding, the governor assured them of his government’s support.
