NIS reunites another ‘mentally unstable’ Oman deportee with family

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, has reunited another female Nigerian, who arrived the country from Muscat in Oman with “mental issue”.

This is coming barely a month after it handed over Mr. Osagie Favour to his family after reportedly losing his senses on arrival also from Oman.

This time around, a female Nigerian, Adepoju Oluwatoyin Ruth, who arrived in the country aboard Egypt Air on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, had her name erroneously given as Olajide Oluwatoyin Ruth by Egypt Air.

It was gathered that the NIS could not trace the name on its system but the immigration officials took their time to search for her real name.

A source said they were able to contact the father who was said to be a resident of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The father later directed the sister of the returnee who is based in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to pick her up at the airport.

On arrival at the airport, the NIS Command interrogated the sister, Olamide, to prove her identity.

Further search into the details of the returnee indicated that she left Nigeria for Oman in 2019 where she was engaged as a housemaid.

The sister, Olamide, expressed delight at reuniting with Oluwatoyin and disclosed that she left Nigeria in 2019 in search of greener pastures.

She also commended the immigration officials at the airport for handling the issue with utmost professionalism, saying that her respect for the service, especially the command had increased.

When contacted, Mr. Abdullahi Dalhatu, the Controller of the Immigration Command referred our correspondent to the immigration headquarters for comment.

He, however, advised Nigerians to be mindful of how they travelled in search of ‘’greener pastures’’ in order not to fall victim.
