The Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) says the message from fasting, abstinence and almsgiving is ‘no pain, no gain’ and that pain is a stepping stone to growth.

The NIREC, co-chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto and President Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III and the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, Dr Samson Ayokunle, said this in a statement Wednesday by its Executive Secretary, Prof. Cornelius Omonokhua.

“The Lent and Ramadan are holy seasons of fasting, abstinence, almsgiving, works of mercy and forgiveness, thus in the spirit of these sacred seasons, Nigerians should pray for the courage to forgive each other and one another.

“NIREC congratulates our Christian faithful for a successful completion of Lent and Easter celebration. As Jesus Christ died on the cross of Calvary to bring peace into this world, we pray that this message of peace will continue to radiate in the heart of every human being especially, the Nigerian citizens.”
