NIQS rebrands identity for visibility, recognition

The Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) will unveil its new brand identity at its 2020 Annual General Meeting scheduled for November 11 –13 in Minna, Niger State.

President of the institute, QS Mohammed Abba Tor, who made the announcement at a pre-AGM press conference at their head office in Abuja, said the rebranding project was meant to give the institute more visibility and recognition in the built environment.

QS Tor explained also that 50 years after the NIQS came into existence, major changes in the political, social, and technological environments have had tremendous impact on it and the quantity surveying profession in general, hence the need for the exercise.

“The NIQS embarked on this rebranding process to properly situate the institute within the context of domestic and global changes to ensure it remains relevant to society and discharge its obligations to its members in the most effective ways.

“The role of the quantity surveyor in the construction industry as the professional construction costs manager and the unique value addition competence is sometimes overlooked. Some of the reasons can be attributed to the low level of visibility of the profession when compared to other allied professions in the industry.

“Unfortunately, overlooking this input has negative effects ranging from costs overrun, challenges in procurement and mismatch between assumed project resourcing and actual requirements,” he said.

The next 50 years of the NIQS, according to the president, would be anchored on the new brand identity which can be leveraged on by the members to the benefit of the wider society.

“In pursuit of these goals, the rebranding roadmap will be presented to members of the institute and the general public in Minna on 12th November 2020. Additionally, the refreshed visual brand elements, revised code of ethics and professional conduct as well as Quality Management Systems document that will guide the institute in continuous improvement of its operations will be launched at the AGM,” Abba Tor said.

Also, as part of its mission to train and produce world-class quantity surveyors and continuously enhance the technical competency of members, the institute will be holding a pre-AGM workshop on ‘Cost Management of Mechanical and Electrical Services in High-Rise Buildings’ on Thursday, November 12, 2020, in Minna.

The workshop will be preceded by a technical site visit to Shiroro Hydro-electrical Power Station (Generation and Transmission Units) on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
