The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) on Wednesday disclosed plans to host a citizens’ Summit for National Integration, Peace and Security aimed at mending the fault lines across the country.
The National President of NIPR, Alhaji Murktar Sirajo disclosed this during a courtesy visit to Media Trust Headquarters in Abuja, adding that the Institute was forced to organise the summit because of the prevailing situation in the country.
The NIPR president said, “Some of us remember with nostalgia the kind of country we actually grew up into. We all grew up into a Nigeria that is blind to primordial considerations.
“Unfortunately, this is not what obtains in the country at present and this country seems to be the only country that I know that is not progressive because the idea of the establishment of a progressive society is for each generation to hand over a better society to the next generation. But in Nigeria we seem to be nostalgic about yesterday, our yesterdays are always better than our today.”
He said it was because of these impasse that the NIPR has decided to organize a citizens summit on National integration, peace and security, adding: “It is our own idea of bringing people together to jaw-jaw instead war-war.”
