Mr Umar Musa, Area Postal Manager (APM), Lagos Island Territory said the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) had been transformed to a one-stop shop driven by technology to improve service delivery.

Musa, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said that the organisation had transformed to become a veritable provider of efficient courier service in the country.

“I think the whole thing is the effort of the present Post Master General.

“His determination is to transform NIPOST to a service that is competitive with any of its counterparts across the globe.

“We are giving anybody in this system a run for their money.

“We are seeing gradually how the post can be used as a platform for trade facilitation and for Micro Small Scale and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs),’’ Musa said.

According to him, NIPOST can become a key player in the anti-corruption fight of the Federal Government and can also be transformed into a major source of generating revenue for the country.

“I think what the public is going to see in the next few months is an organisation that is being transformed in line with the transformation agenda of Mr president,’’ he said.

Mrs Simbiat Lawal, the Senior Assistant, Post-Master General, Corporate Commission Department also said that NIPOST was not restricted to only letters but also engaged in philately, a collection of stamps for business.

Lawal said that the organisation also posts cash as part of its current innovation used to replace money order and postal order which had been taken over by events.

She said that NIPOST had also invented the parcel post which allows a customer to carry heavy luggage at a reasonable and affordable amount of money.

“People think that the post office is about letter writing but that is not all we are about.

“NPOST is all about philately, post cash, kitchen utensils, school table and doors, chairs that can be used as event centres.

“We also build trucks that can carry goods; if you come to the NIPOST workshop we will construct it for you.

“If you go to other courier service companies you will be charged heavily, why not come to NIPOST as we have our network across the globe,’’ Lawal said.
