Nine dead, 10 injured in Abuja road crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disclosed that nine persons have been confirmed dead while 10 others were injured in a fatal crash along Yangoji-Abaji road of the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT). 

According to a statement signed by Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, the crash involved a Toyota Hiace Bus with vehicle registration number KTG-450 KQ and Howo Sino truck along Yangoji-Abaji road at about 06:05 am on Saturday.

He said the bus was coming from Osun State while heading to Katsina State but unfortunately crashed into a stationary trailer.

He stressed that both vehicles involved in the crash were commercial vehicles.

Kazeem said, “Twenty-two people were involved in the crash. They were all male. Ten were Injured and nine were killed. First aid was given to two. The FRSC recovered N3,170, six bags and 4 different mobile phones.

“The nine corpses were deposited at mortuary general hospital Kwali and the Nigerian Police Force, Kwali division, has taken over the investigation.”

According to Kazeem, the Acting Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, said the crashes resulted from dangerous overtaking and eventual loss of control.

Biu noted that crashes at night were more fatal than others in the day time.

He maintained that the corps would constantly engage the motoring public through aggressive awareness and sensitisation campaigns until the desired result was achieved.

He urged vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles were put in order before they put them on the road so as to avoid road crashes, especially at night.
