As we all know, ensuring security is a collective task that must be taken with all seriousness. Government and the citizens must not toy with this vital responsibility.
However, not all security measures are really workable, especially in our complex society where criminals are on duty all day, thinking of new ways to outshine the nation’s gallant security personnel, moreso that they have a good network of their activities through their chain of informants all around.
When the Nigerian Railway Corporation said passengers would be required to provide their National Identification Number (NIN) registration for verification prior to purchasing train tickets, I tried to make out what the officials of the corporation meant by this. One wonders what NIN has got to do with a serious security threat like this.
I think putting in place more sophisticated gadgets in all public places, railway stations and trains inclusive is what we need. I really picked a hole in the NRC proposal because I cannot, now or later, see any positive impact that it would make in view of the mode in which the criminals operate today.
Please let us think of better and result-oriented ways from security experts so as to save souls from further perishing.
