The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) have entered into a partnership that would ensure sustenance of Nigeria’s air quality.
At the partnership engagement briefing at the NiMET, Dr. Lawrence Anukam, Director General/CEO NESREA, noted that a lot people are dying from air pollution hence the need for the collaboration.
“The time has come for us to deepen our relationship with NiMET on air quality. This is something we can do through effective collaboration through the areas of capacity building and information/data sharing,” he said, adding that “when we do these, we solve a common problem of air pollution.”
We want to leverage on the capability of NiMET in air quality monitoring and data collection. If we have a healthy environment, we will have a healthy work force and a healthy economy.
We had started the air quality programme sometime ago which led us to introduce the regulation on vehicular emission control, he noted.
