NIMASA donates relief materials to disaster victims

The Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has donated relief materials worth of millions of naira to victims of disasters in Niger State.

The items include mattresses, rice, beans, Indomie noddles, vegetable and palm oil, Semovita, detergents and toiletries, among others.

Presenting the materials at the Government House in Minna on behalf of the Director General/CEO of NIMASA, Peterside Dakuku yesterday, the Director, Special Duties, Mrs Lami Tumaka, said the gesture was in line with the appeal by President Muhammadu Buhari for government agencies to assist disaster victims.

She said the agency targeted 11 states when the gesture commenced last year but was increased to 20 states this year.

The Acting Governor of the state, Ahmed Mohammed Kesto, who received the items, commended NIMASA for considering Niger for the intervention.

He said the state was at the receiving end of disasters, especially flood, because it played host to several hydroelectric dams, adding that countless lives and property were lost yearly because of the menace.
