The newly appointed Chancellor of Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja, Shehu of Borno, Dr Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba El-Kanemi, has said capacity building, especially in technology and science-related departments, will be given priority during his tenure.
He stated this when a delegation of the management team of the university led by its Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dilli Dogo, paid him a visit at his palace in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, recently.

A statement from the varsity said HRH Abubakar said his appointment is an honour to him and the people of Borno State and noted his commitment to contributing his wealth of experience to the attainment of Nile University’s goals.
He said he has always been an admirer of Nile University, most especially with regard to her efforts in providing quality tertiary education to Nigeria’s ever-growing young population.
HRH Abubakar said the private sector has played a significant role in developing the country’s education sector.
The visit was occasioned by the recent appointment of HRH as the new chancellor of the university by its board of trustees and the presentation of appointment letter by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dogo, in company of the Registrar, Mr. David Olowola, and Chief Operating Officer (Nigeria) for Honoris United Universities, Mr. Jonathan Okharedia.
The acting vice chancellor, Prof. Dogo, expressed delight over working with the royal father to move the university to greater heights.
He said the appointment of HRH Abubakar followed his renowned contributions to the educational and economic development of Nigeria and consistent advocacy for peace, youth development and empowerment.
He said since being acquired by Honoris United Universities in July 2020, Nile University has significantly positioned itself as one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions, by developing world-class African and globally ready human talent with the needed 21st-century skills to thrive in the globally disrupted world of work.
