Since Nigeria’s independence in 1960, women have not been given the chance to become president of the country and I think our great nation is making a mistake.
If Nigeria has a woman as president, there are many advantages we can enjoy from her tenure. One of such benefits is that she will be an honest president. By this I do not mean that male presidents are not honest but women are known for long with honesty. If we have an honest president, we are on the path to economic growth and development – more good roads, low-cost houses, hospitals and clinics and schools. More industries and factories would be built to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed Nigerians.

Moreover, there is a saying that `what a man can do a woman can do better’. Indeed this saying is true because women all over the world have proved to be better leaders than men. We have such examples in Christiana Fernandez Kirchner of Argentina and Dilma Roussef of Brazil and many more.
They are women of virtue, respect and substance. They have proved that women can excel in a man’s world and they are respected among world leaders.
If Nigeria’s next president is a woman, she will be upright, disciplined and very firm. She would realise that she is in a man’s world and that she has many challenges to face. This will make her prove her worth. She will not bend for anybody to commit a mistake. Once we have a president who is very firm and determined, bribery, corruption, insurgency and kidnapping will be curbed.
It is the nature of women to be peaceful and loving. She will promote peaceful co-existence among the various tribes as well as good neighbourliness with the country’s neighbours.
I must also state that women are very compassionate by nature although they can be firm. If Nigeria has a female president she will feel strongly for the poor, and the little children that beg on our roads, the old people who have nobody to take care of them and the insane in our society.
Finally, I must say that if Nigerians elect a female president, it will be a great turning point in the history of our great country. If Nigerians can give women a chance to rule, I am sure we will not regret it.
