A Nigerian financial technology firm known as Flutterwave is the only African company among the 100 Most Influential Companies in the world, according to TIME 2021 list.
The company was named a “Pioneer” on the five-category list which has big names like Apple, Twitter and Stripe. In a statement, TIME said while the company was among the ‘Pioneer’ list as it sustained retailing and transactions for about 20,000 during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

Just last month, the company announced that it had secured $170 million of Series C funding from global investors which raised the company’s worth at over $1 billion. The other companies in the Pioneer category include Savage X Fenty, Hello Sunshine, and Strava. There were more companies in the Leaders, Innovators, Disruptors and Titans categories.
Commenting, co-founder and CEO of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, said it launched a free promotion called “keeping the lights on” during the period and sustained efforts to deepen fintech services.
