Nigeria’s first Visually Impaired Prof, Diso, dies in Kano

The first virtually impaired professor in Nigeria, Professor Jibril Isa Diso, is dead.

Lamara Garba, Head of the Directorate of Public Affairs at Bayero University, Kano, confirmed his death on Friday.

Until his death, Jibril was a lecturer in the Department of Special Education at BUK. He was born at Diso quarters of Gwale Local Government Area of the state.

Jibril began his education in 1962 and completed his primary school in 1969. He attended Gindiri Blind Secondary School in Plateau State in 1979.

He later advanced his career at Tudun Maliki School for the Special Needs in Kano before joining the Department of Special Education at Bayero University in 1994. In 2019, he became the first visually impaired professor in Nigeria.

Jibril earned his PhD in Special Education from the University of Birmingham, London in 1991.

His funeral prayer would take place today (Friday) at the Abdullahi Bin Abbas Juma’a Mosque, Sabon Titi, Gidan Kankara, Kano State.
