Ten Nigerian cyclists are prepared to represent the country at the the Confederation of African Cycling Championship billed to hold in Cairo, Egypt according to the President of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, Giadomenico Massari.

Speaking with journalists at the Velodrome inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium, the cyclists who have been in camp ahead of the tournament with the coaching crew will jet out to Cairo on Tuesday, 14th January, 2020.

In the eight events in which Nigeria has comparative advantage and will participate in, four male and six female athletes are set to make the country proud.

Speaking with journalists at the Velodrome inside Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, the President of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, Giadomenico Massari, is confident that Nigeria will rule Africa in Cycling when the championship take the center stage in Cairo next week.

“At the moment we are finalizing preparation for the Africa track championship that we have started on December 10, five of the athletes (3female and 2male) that will be competing already attended a rigorous training in South Africa from 11to 28 December ensure adequate preparation ahead of the games,” he said.

“We have a good chance of winning medals because we trained in South Africa who is the best in the continental, our female athletes are also ranked among the best in the track, so we can confident that will conquer Africa”.

“Going by our performance in South Africa during the First edition of the African Track Cycling Tournament where we won 51 medals, Nigeria also qualified for the World Championship which will be held in Germany.

“Though, Nigeria just started cycling but we will do well on Cairo. We are into gear to make we achieve this,” he concluded.

On his own, Coach Emmanuel Onasanya said that team Nigeria is going to have the best outing in Cairo because federation have provides all needed equipment to compete better.

According to him, Team Nigeria is going to participate in the eight  events out of ten which includes; Sprint; Individual Pursuit; Team Pursuit; Kerin; Madison; Ominion; 500 meters for female and 1 kilo for male; Point race and Scratch race.

The championship commences from 16th to 19th January, 2020.
