A former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has urged Nigerians to monitor what the commission is doing, as the country gets closer to the 2023 general elections.

Jega was spoke during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, while commenting on the allegations against some resident electoral commissioner nominees of INEC.

Some Nigerians, especially members of opposition parties had urged the Senate to disqualify the nominees, saying they were card-carrying members of some political parties.

But commenting on the development Jega said, “As we get closer to the 2023 general elections, all sorts of things happen either out of desperation or out of mischief making. And I think the challenge for the electoral commission, for all of us citizens who want to see elections with integrity is to remain focused on what INEC is doing.

“We can all complement what the commission is doing for successful elections. Somebody said long time ago that everything is possible in our country. We cannot just wish away all these kind of allegations when they are being made.”
