Vendors and distributors at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the aegis of Newspaper Vendors Association, Abuja (NVAA) as well as Abuja Newspapers Distributors Association (ANDA) have raised the alarm over why Nigerians no longer patronize them.
The President of the distributors, Comrade Benji Obute, who stated this at the Vendors Week 2021 in Abuja, said vendors played a vital role of information dissemination in the society as newspaper would not get to the end users without their involvement.

Obute said the downturn in the economy has reduced the purchasing power of the general public that affected negatively on newspaper sales.
“The low literacy level and dwindling reading culture in the society are also adduced as reasons for poor newspaper sales. These constraints are negatively affecting the print media industry, forcing so many media houses to close shop as they cannot break even,” Obute said.
